Prep Time: 5–10 minutes
Total Time: 5–10 minutes
Servings: 1
Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients
1 medium ripe banana, peeled, sliced, and frozen
½ cup (about 120 g) plain Greek yogurt
2 teaspoons NatriHealth Freeze-Dried Blackberry Powder
2 tablespoons (30 mL) milk of choice, plus more if needed
¼–½ cup frozen blackberries or blueberries (optional, for a stronger berry flavour)
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
Optional Toppings: Fresh blackberries, sliced banana, granola, chia seeds, coconut flakes, or sliced almonds.
Instructions
Prepare the fruit. Use a banana that has been peeled, sliced, and frozen until firm. Frozen banana helps give the smoothie bowl a thick, creamy consistency.
Blend the ingredients. Add the frozen banana, Greek yogurt, blackberry powder, milk, and vanilla extract to a blender. Add the optional frozen berries if using.
Adjust the consistency. Blend until smooth and thick, stopping to scrape down the sides when needed. If the mixture is too thick to blend, add milk one tablespoon at a time. The finished smoothie should be thick enough to eat with a spoon.
Taste and adjust. Taste the smoothie and add a little honey or maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter flavour.
Add toppings and serve. Spoon the smoothie into a bowl and finish with fresh blackberries, banana slices, granola, or your favourite toppings. Enjoy immediately.
Tips for the Best Results
For a thicker smoothie bowl: Use fully frozen banana and begin with just two tablespoons of milk. Adding too much liquid can turn the mixture into a drinkable smoothie.
For a stronger blackberry flavour: Add a little more blackberry powder gradually, tasting as you go. Frozen blackberries can also add berry flavour and help create a thicker texture.
For balanced sweetness: A ripe banana provides sweetness that complements the natural tartness of blackberries. Adjust the optional sweetener only after blending.
For extra crunch: Add granola, coconut flakes, or chopped nuts immediately before serving.
Substitutions
Dairy-free: Replace Greek yogurt with a thick, plain plant-based yogurt and use your preferred plant-based milk.
No fresh or frozen blackberries: Blackberry powder can still provide berry flavour. The finished bowl may be lighter in colour and less intensely fruity.
No granola: Try sliced almonds, toasted coconut, or pumpkin seeds instead.
Less sweet: Skip the honey or maple syrup and rely on the natural sweetness of ripe banana.
Storage
Smoothie bowls are best enjoyed immediately while the mixture is cold and thick.
If preparing ingredients in advance, freeze the sliced banana in a sealed container and measure out your dry ingredients separately.
The blended mixture may soften or separate during storage, so blending just before serving is recommended.
